Be Smart this Mother’s Day
Another Mother’s Day is around the corner, May 13th. What to do this year that’s smart for mom — and lets her know what a special kid, husband or friend she has in you? Instead of giving her the usual suspects like sweets and sweaters, take time to be smart and do a little detective work, zeroing in on her well-being.
See what the evidence shows is happening with mom’s lifestyle, health, and fitness.
Pick a gift that “sets her up” in little ways to make the right moves.
Start with fun and exercise. Take a look at the state of her fitness shoes, exercise clothes, sun hat, and accessories. Peak in the closet, ask family or friends. Don’t know the size or style? Give a gift card from a retailer who offers something healthful, whether it’s a supplement like E6 Energy or specialty sports equipment.
Is your mom still toting around young kids? Look for ways to make it easy for her to get the gang together and out fast. An extra sports bag, loaded with all she needs is a good start. Babysitting coupons are great.
Here are some more health-smart ideas:
- Fitness calendar, packed with ideas and room to log activities. Maybe it’s late for an off-the-shelf 2012 calendar but what about a custom one? Go to a local print shop or see if there’s time to use an online service. Pick your most inspiring images (include some of you and her) and bingo, you’ve got a special gift she’ll hang on the wall, a daily reminder she needs to make time for her health – for herself and because you care.
- Sustainable water bottle. Plastic is a problem, so treat your mom to a sleek new option. Choose patterns, insulated, and even bottles with filters.
- Replace the granny pack: Today’s fanny packs have new shapes and fun materials, worn slung on the hip with pockets for water and products like energy bars. Tuck in a surprise handful of E6 Energy Strips, so she won’t be weighed down.
